Norwood, Ohio Cornerstone at Norwood Project

This area borders on Williams Avenue, Smith Road and Interstate 71. The area has already gone through extensive renovation when I 71 was built back in the 1970's. All of us neighborhood kids used to play on the railroad trestles. Construction on Cornerstone at Norwood  will begin sometime in April 2002. From a residential community to an office site, I will update pics as the project progresses. These pictures were taken between March 24-30, 2002. This was a working class neighborhood and these folks had spent some hard earned money making their homes comfortable and very nice looking. Walking thru this demolition zone, I could feel the years of family lives gone by. Having lived there myself at 2669 Williams Avenue for awhile when I was 16, I'm sad to see it go for sentimental reasons, but hope the project is a success for future generations.

2669 Williams Ave.

2669 Williams Ave.

Pulling onto Dacey Ave. The houses look rather sad. Their windows missing makes it look like the eyes to their soul have been removed.

2669 Wiliams Ave. up close.

1 down, 3 to go.

Demolition process under way They have been working on these longer than I knew about or else I would have earlier pictures.

KEEP OUT ASBESTOS

The guys at King Wrecking are clearing these out very quickly.

The whole area is fenced off.

Sunrise with the block cleared except for the corner house.

Peering inside 2669 Williams Avenue. This is where I lived when I was 16.

It appears they combined apartments. These were cracker boxes.

Amazing how they turn a tree into twigs so easy.

Whack ! Down it came. Firewood in a flash.

Poor tree.

This is the only house left on this side, the guy in the little bulldozer was stuck, the guy in the big one nudged him loose.

The 3 houses on Garland Avenue are still there.

This one still needs the plaster taken out. It's 2643 Dacey.

The only one left on that side. The pic of the back of it shows the clothesline still intact.

Strange how they did this one. They removed the garage and left the roof.

There is nothing left.

The only house left on this side, 2643 Dacey.

I had to sneak a peek inside 2643 Dacey since the back door was open.

Warning !

The back of 2643 Dacey, there used to be a deck here that was sold during the salvage process.

It looks like a tornado hit, this used to be a garage.

It looks like a bomb hit.

I wish they would save these trees. They are beautiful and mature. Some have been estimated to be 100 years old.

A view of 2643 Dacey from the other side.

This used to be someone's home. It almost felt like getting your gut ripped out seeing things this way.

This still needs the concrete removed, this is the house that had the pool.

The swimming pool that will be torn up and carted off to the concrete landfill.

The back of the one on the corner, the clothesline is still there.

Asbestos dumpster.

Hazmat dumpster.

There is a lot that goes into the demolition of a site. Construction: Demolition. This is OSHA's site of demolition regulations. It's been an interesting process watching this so far. Once they begin building the new structure, it should be complete within about 18 months. Ackermann is the developer, Neyer is the builder.
