Kinako Mochi
8 dried mochi cakes
1 cup kinako powder
1 cup sugar
a pinch of salt
hot water
This is a popular treat during New Year's season in Japan. Mix together the kinako powder, sugar and salt in a bowl and set aside. Lightly oil a frying pan. With heat on low, toast mochi in pan until soft. Mochi will start to puff and lightly brown. Soak mochi in hot water until the toasted coating has softened. Put mochi in kinako powder mixture turning until well coated then serve.
